The Crossroads Chantry Game

Purpose

The purpose of the Crossroads Chantry is simple. The establishment of a sanctuary for all local Tradition mages (who aren’t in criminal standing as far as Protocols go) is paramount. Of secondly importance is the nature of men and women of similar experience to gather and relate. This social atmosphere provides a means by which mages may propagate their Traditional magicks and gain a broader comprehension (and hopefully, wiser opinion) of other Traditions’ beliefs and styles. After all, that’s what the Council of Traditions is all about: seeking wisdom without bias. So in short, the Crossroads Chantry is about learning from one another and protecting one another from common enemies.

The Crossroads Chantry was once a College Chantry for the Order of Hermes. However, due to a number of reasons, not the least of which was Technocratic pressure, the Order was forced to abandon this original motive. The doors were opened to all local mages. The Order, and other Traditions now, still use the Handel House as a place of education for young apprentices.

Chantry Policies

Chantry Policy is fairly standard Tradition Law, simplified and commonfied for the variety of Traditions and Orphans housed in this organization. The only standing law that sticks out the most is that the Rule of Shade (aka the Veil/Masquerade) must remain inviolate. The Crossroads Chantry is host to any of the Nine Traditions, with Crafters and Orphans given cautious and semi-probationary warrant. Joining the Crossroads Chantry requires a thorough background reference by the leading (NPC) Masters of the Chantry.

Special Events

Special events are annual (or more frequent) holidays or special ritual days that the main group or groups observe as a whole community. Attendance and participation is often expected of all members, and sometimes required.

Supreme Feast
Held annually on November 15th, the Supreme Feast occurs at the Handel House. Every member of the chantry receives an invitation to partake and provide samplings of foods or drinks that they wish to share. Culinary-minded mysticks may take this opportunity to demonstrate the subtle (and coincidental) ways by which foods can be prepared with benign magickal effects. Strong abjurations prevent direct mind control (even “suggestions”) or any harmful effects (such as explosive cupcakes or wine goblets full of poison). Indeed, chefs are required to label their foods (“surprise casseroles” are not appreciated), so Ecstatics hoping to dope up their chantrymates with “benign” highs will find themselves in deep doo-doo.

“We are gathered here not for ourselves, but for the heroes of the past and hopes of the future. Let wisdom be our guide and will our torch in the trials and tribulations ahead.”

-- Wendell Meister bani Flambeau, Master of the Crossroads Chantry
