Enlightened Rule by Science

Purpose

The Technocratic Union of San Francisco, also known as Symposium #FS9710, was established as soon as the first American pioneers came upon the beautiful countryside of California. In short time, the Union realized the danger that accompanied that beauty, in the form of unstable earth. Immediately, scientists were set to study the geology of this land, and the Union formulated its ways around that exploration.

Today, the Symposium is still dominated by these investigators, which are represented by the Void Engineers. Other Conventions all have a sway in city affairs, but the Technocracy's true concern in the Bay Area are the fault-lines. After the Big One of 1906, a barrage of monstrosities arose from the deep and attacked bases across the city. The Technocracy's soldiers were able to put those beasts down, but the Union is more wary than ever of further dangers. The Big One of 1989 did not provoke such an onslaught, but it left the Technocrats feeling rattled, as if something huge was stirring.

So now the guardians of mankind are readying their arms to the earth. Other Reality Deviants must tread carefully or risk the wrath of the Technocracy, which has little patience for intrigue or treaties with the denizens of San Francisco. That is left to the Syndicate and New World Order, while the Void Engineers and Progenitors head up their scientific experiments. Iteration X thrives in Silicon Valley and readies its cybernetic forces to deploy against any more monsters the earth may spew.

Protocols

The Technocracy in San Francisco obeys all standard Protocols and the Precepts of Damian. Due to its focus on what may lie below the city, however, this Symposium cares little for grand philosophical ideals. It's all about discovery and enforcement.

The Pogrom

The Technocrats in this town keep an eye out for serious transgressions, breaches of Protocol, and other dangerous events that may inspire Sleepers to turn to superstitionism. Even the liberal mindset of San Francisco does not quell the Technocracy's agents from doing their job, and the supernatural beings of this town know it. Thus, the Symposium is able to aim its Pogrom almost entirely at whatever may be beneath the earth.

Special Events

Special events are annual (or more frequent) holidays or special ritual days that the main group or groups observe as a whole community. Attendance and participation is often expected of all members, and sometimes required.

Bay Area Science Fair
The Technocracy loves science festivals. Sleepers expect to see what is often vulgar-as-hell advanced science procedures and devices. The BASF is the biggest on the West Coast, thanks to San Francisco’s proximity to Silicon Valley. It is held from November 2nd to the 16th – plenty of time for an enterprising technician to showcase his latest invention to both his handlers and the general public. The fair draws the attention of everyone in the world, too, so it also provides the New World Order the chance to identify possible RDs, especially whacky Sons of Ether or more naïve Virtual Adepts.

“Reality Deviants pale in comparison to the horrors lurking deep beneath the earth. We must find out what they are and more importantly what they can do, then terminate with extreme prejudice.”

-- Dr. Pauline Steygar, Control of Symposium #FS9710
