Mage: The Ascension

Sons of Ether

The Etherites' factions include:

Adventurers
These Etherites pursue excitement and adventure beyond the laboratory. Some apply their scientific genius to field studies, like Indiana Jones. Others use their technological prowess to pursue some sociological goal, like a heroic vigilante (e.g., Batman). Sphere: Forces.

Cybernauts
These Etherites share a common ground with their Virtual Adept cousins. While they are still great explorers, the Cybernauts seek to explore the Digital Web beyond all other worlds. Sphere: Correspondence.

Ethernauts
The quintessential explorer and seer of new ages and worlds, the Ethernaut is an Etherite who turns his technological genius to the exploration of worlds beyond our own. They fly their vessels beyond the Horizon and into Deep Space to see fantastical wonders and deal with unforetold dangers. Sphere: Dimensional Science (Spirit).

Mad Scientists
Mad Scientists are the standard banner for Sons of Ether. These mages are what everyone expects to see: a genius but odd scientist laboring over some new weird device or theory. And in fact, most Etherites fall into this category to one degree or another.

Progressivists
The Progressivists are the most politically active of all the Etherites. Of course, their agenda is limited to the Tradition mainly. They seek to modernize the organization and bring equality to the meritocracy of the Sons of Ether. Because for starters, they aren't all "sons" -- some are daughters! Most Progressivists are female, unsurprisingly. Sphere: Mind.

Utopians
Whereas Mad Scientists develop their technology and science for the fulfillment of their personal goals, Utopians look beyond their own lives. The Utopians yearn to see the world a better place. And they know that science is the key to making life better for everyone. Sphere: Time.
