Camarilla

In Hawai’i, the undead lifestyle is as relaxed as that found in the Caribbean Islands. However, these exotic islands are blessedly free of Setite corruption. The Camarilla’s talons are sunk into the city machines of Honolulu and Hilo completely. The Kindred command influence over the tourist industry, real estate, international banking, and the city machines. Few Camarilla wander out of the protectorates of these two major cities.

Meanwhile, the Princes use loosely allied Gangrel to scour the more rural parts of the state for other Kindred. The two Princes are both relaxed Elders; the Prince of Hilo is the childe of the Prince of Honolulu. They run their cities with the affairs of the entire state in mind, and are rarely out of sync with one another’s plans.

Key Locations
In Hilo, the Camarilla hold court out of the Prince’s favorite Elysium, the Hyatt Hotel on Banyan Drive. This expensive hotel hosts entire sections (such as lounges, indoor sports clubs, and banquet halls) to private charters (and for free on the owner’s request, who happens to be the Prince). In Honolulu, ‘Iolani Palace – once a palace for Hawai’ian royalty and now a museum – is reserved certain nights for “special guests”. The Kindred do not own this museum, the state does, but they use their influence to “borrow” this opulent estate once per month.

Clan Structure
Unsurprisingly, Toreador dominate the affairs of the Hawai’ian Camarilla. Many Ventrue also work behind the scenes in Hilo and Honolulu. Other clans are less common but represented nonetheless. Gangrel are scattered across the state, doing their best to enjoy the wilderness, avoid other Kindred, and elude the other supernatural creatures about that detest the undead.

Rules
The Six Traditions are all observed, but Kindred can easily blend into the smaller towns dotted about the estate to avoid the Princes’ notice. So long as they keep on the move to the next small town or village, Cainites can avoid the Camarilla for a long time. It has long been a tradition, however rare it is called upon, to carry out a sentence of Final Death by immersion in a volcanic vent. Naturally, few Kindred wish to test the patience of the Elders!

Other Kindred

The Camarilla dominate the two main urban centers and are uncontested there. The Sabbat has little interest in Hawai’i at this time, but is rumored to have sent spies here anyway. The Anarchs don’t have much to rebel against in this laidback state, although a few immigrated from the California Freestates and would like to see Hawai’i join that league of Anarch territories. Among the independent clans, there are too few in the state to be noticeable as a group.

Kuei-jin

The Kuei-jin are another story, however. In Honolulu’s Chinatown, which is fashioned after San Francisco’s Chinatown (but isn’t as big), there is a small Wu dispatched there by the Quincux as part of the Great Step Outward. This Wu, the Striking Serpent’s Head, lacks its own dragon nest, but is blending well into the local populace. The Camarilla is well aware of the Wu’s presence and tolerant of it so far, but mistakenly believe they are the only Cathayans in Hawai’i. Actually, the Striking Serpent’s Head thinks it is the only group of Wan Kuei in the state.

But nothing could be further from the truth. The Court of Firerain has dwelt in the plantation town of Maunaloa Village, found west central on the island of Moloka’i, for centuries. They are one of the depraved and sensual Golden Courts, and may in fact be the most distant stretch of that Court system. The Court of Firerain understands that it is more than the last Golden Court. It is the last true court of Zhongguo; all other courts beyond are colonizing Kuei-jin.

Key Location
The Court of Firerain owns the Likonahele Sugar Ranch plantation near Maunaloa and dwell in these houses. These Wan Kuei often visit the Moloka’i Ranch Wildlife Park, a little piece of Africa transported here, where many African animals can be found. The Golden Courters identify with these wild beasts in their Yang-dominant natures. They maintain a dragon nest (Level 2) of Healing based out of a natural waterhole in the Wildlife Park (the park was built around that waterhole, in fact).

Dharmic Structure
The Striking Serpent’s Head Wu is a handful of Kuei-jin representing most of the five traditional Dharma. The Court of Firerain on the other hand leans heavily towards members of the Dancing of the Thrashing Dragon, though a few Devil Tigers and Thousand Whispers can be found there, too.

Unlike the Golden Courts across the Pacific, the Court of Firerain does not uphold penangallan traditions, though the court is still matriarchal in nature. While some penangallan courts can be quite monstrous and brutal in nature, the Court of Firerain has long worked to blend into Hawai’ian culture, and have become far less aggressive. Their search for the truth of Yang brings them to the gates of pleasure long before bloodshed.

Rules
The Wu in Honolulu upholds the Fivefold Way vigorously as it seeks to expand its influence over human affairs, building its Scarlet Screens patiently over the years. The Court of Firerain cares little for such activities, and follows the Great Way much more loosely. However, only female Kuei-jin can become Mandarins or Ancestors in the Court of Firerain. Male Wan Kuei who reach loftier heights of wisdom must change gender (through Disciplines) or go elsewhere.
