The Changing Breeds

Gurahl

Weep for the Okuma, but don’t play one. They’re dead. The remaining werebears are Western in nature. In the past couple decades at the most, a few awakened Gurahl have gone to Asia in order to discover what occurred to their Asian counterparts. Some mated while there with native bears (but no Okuma Kin could be found). It is possible, thusly, for a Gurahl to have an Oriental identity as a homid and breed of bear. However, they would be raised as Western Gurahl, and any ancestry they can recall (via Past Life) would be Western, too. The Okuma are lost to natural breeding methods. If the Gurahl want them back, they’ll have to go to more extreme levels.

Kitsune

The Kitsune are native to Asia, of course. Indeed, most Kitsune join the Beast-Courts. Not all do, however. Some stand aloof, living in solitude, or working only with Hakken Clans in Japan. Kitsune are in many ways the Orient’s answer to the Nuwisha, as the two breeds share many similarities. Kitsune travel as much as the Nuwisha do, and only call their native lands home. Kitsune originate most commonly from China, Japan, and Korea.

Mokolé

The Mokolé are a people found throughout much of the world, yet they are isolated and almost xenophobically territorial. Like their reptilian kin, they stick to subtropical to tropical regions. Broken down into Streams instead of Tribes, the Mokolé are deeply involved in maintaining Gaia’s Memory. Sadly, most have no interest in sharing the Memory with other Fera. The Asian Mokolé are the exception to this, although there tend to be a few more Western Mokolé in the world than Eastern.

Gumagan
The Gumagan are native only to the Australian continent. They will not be found outside of it except in dire circumstances. They may maintain polite ties to their Asian counterparts to the north, but that is all. They are not part of the Beast-Courts.

Makara
The Makara are a Stream closely related to the Zhong Lung. Located in the Indian sub-continent and nearby regions, the Makara often embrace the precepts of the Emerald Mother. In fact, at least half of all Makara are hengeyokai. It is quite common for the few Beast-Courts in India and its neighbors to be ruled by the Makara (often with Vritra Nagah as silent partners). Those that are not among the Beast-Courts certainly maintain amicable relations with the hengeyokai.

Mokolé-mbembe
These Mokolé are native to Africa, South, and North America. They are the most Western of all weresaurians. A few Wanderers have met and interacted with the Beast-Courts as diplomats, particularly in the past, but no Mokolé-mbembe has ever felt the need to abandon his Stream to join an Asian institution in which two Streams already participate.

Zhong Lung
The Zhong Lung can take credit for the visionary establishment of the Beast-Court ideology. Among the most mighty and impressive hengeyokai, their numbers have dwindled over the millennia. Many still slumber, lost in the Memory. There are only a few dozen active Zhong Lung in the Middle Kingdom today. The Zhong Lung once ranged across Asia. Nowadays they are most common in China (especially near the rivers) and Southeast Asia. A few may be found amongst the various Pacific Islands; rare are the Zhong Lung that hail from Korea or Japan.
