Chi-Eaters


Note that Kuei-jin Disciplines often have Chi cost values higher than Dharmic ability permits. All that means is that a vampire who wishes to use that power but cannot spend enough Chi that turn must pause to "build". The vampire may take other actions in the previous turn(s) while "building" but can use no other Disciplines. For example, a vampire who wants to breathe a gout of Ghost-Flame for 9 dice of damage must spend 3 points of Yang Chi. If his Dharma score is only 4, he can only spend 2 points per turn. He spends 2 points the first turn and the second turn he spends 1 point and his Discipline takes effect. Suffice to say, Demon Chi/Black Wind cannot speed up this process.


Physical Attributes


Vampires can naturally improve their Physical Attributes for a scene by expending blood on a one-for-one basis (one Blood Point per Trait point increase). But what's the limit? Second edition does not set any rule for this, and though Revised does, this Storyteller doesn't like it. This is the system he employs.

Any Cainite can increase Strength, Dexterity, or Stamina up to +3 beyond his maximum Generational Trait limit. Thus, all vampires 8th Generation or higher cannot improve their Physical Attributes beyond 8. And it goes from there: 7th Generation cannot go beyond 9, 6th Generation beyond 10, 5th Generation beyond 11, and 4th Generation beyond 12.

Kuei-jin are more limited in their ability to improve their Physical Attributes. It is not so natural to Cathayans, who can only improve certain Attributes as tied to certain (Shintai) Disciplines. Once those Disciplines are learned (even Level 1), the correlating Physical Attribute can be improved naturally. Kuei-jin can expend Chi (either Yin or Yang) to improve that Trait, but cannot go increase the Trait more than their comprehension of that metaphysical essence. Thus, the limitation is related to that corresponding Shintai Discipline. The vampire cannot spend more Chi on the Trait than the score of his highest corresponding Discipline. For example, a vampire with Flesh Shintai 4 can increase his Dexterity no more than +4. This is regardless if it increases the vampire's Attribute beyond 5.
