Little Asia
Zones
Note again that the term “Zone” is being used to differentiate between the larger “Districts” that encompass all of Kansas City including Little Asia itself. In common parlance, the terms are likely to be used interchangeably. This does lead to confusion occasionally, which is why city planners do differentiate with those terms.
Under each zone is listed a field entitled “Patrol Rating”. This indicates how heavily the police and other agents of the law (and this may include Technocratic agents) watch and guard the area. This rating will be either “low”, “moderate”, or “high”. Take note that areas listed as “low” do not necessarily mean no force of law or justice exist. This is a fictional world of the supernatural, and vigilantes of different sorts may prowl.
The Marketplace
When first entering the district by way of the south zodiac gate, a visitor finds himself in the Marketplace. A bustle of activity by day -- everyday -- the Marketplace opens at dawn and extends into the early evening hours. The Marketplace is a squared extension of five city blocks lined with small-time businesses and street vendors. Anything and everything can be found, from Asian import general stores to souvenir shops, from Chinese kite and yo-yo sellers to hot dog stands side-by-side with egg roll peddlers. The Marketplace is not just a tourist attraction, it’s the primary business exchange for the average citizen in Little Asia. The law keep beat cops on regular patrols in this part of the district for the people’s safety and the prevention of petty theft. Several restaurants with specific ethnic menus line the streets, too, including the Panda Takeout and Todai’s Sushi Specialties. Other locales include the SABRA (Smith Academy for Budo & Related Arts) martial arts school, which is right next door to the Hong Pharmacy & EMS. Shops include the Clever Crane, a pen & paper hobby shop, and the Semaisen General Imports Store, a small grocery and general store. Although effort is made to keep the ambiance of this zone pleasant, the heavy traffic creates quite a mess of litter and lingering pollutants. The Marketplace demands high upkeep yet those demands are always met. The small buildings are packed tightly together, just like the citizens: snug like sardines.
